The Eco Centre was established with Partnership for Eco Policy Project which is implemented by the Stara Zagora Chamber of Commerce and Industry together with Community Donors Fund Foundation Stara Zagora and Civil Union Non-profit Association Stara Zagora. Funding is provided by the European Union within PHARE programme entitled Civil Society Development BG 2004/016-711.01.01.
The Eco Centre was founded to respond to the increasing insufficiency of environmental information and civil monitoring.
THE ECO CENTRE
- Registers citizens' signals about environmental issues and phenomena influencing people, harvest, animals and the whole environment
- Informs citizens and institutions about the environmental situation in the region
- Raises the awareness of the legislation concerning the environment and regional environmental policies
- Elaborates and distributes promotion and information materials
- Collects, processes and analyzes data about the environmental situation in the region
- Organizes in-situ visits to venues where environmental abnormalities have been detected by citizens and experts.
The Bulgarian Constitutional Treaty outlines:
article 7. The State takes responsibility for harms and damages caused by illegal acts or deeds whose agents are their institutions or competent persons.
article 15. The Republic of Bulgaria ensures the protection and recreation of the environment, the sustainability and variety of the living nature.
article 28. One is entitled to life. Breaches of human life are sanctioned as the gravest criminal act.
